Snowshoe Hike in Piani di Artavaggio: Snowy Loop Trail with Lunch at Rifugio Nicola
Snowshoe Hike with Lunch at Hut
A winter classic in the Valsassina, taken from its quiet side.
The experience
We ride the cable car up and put our snowshoes on with the Guidders at the Piani di Artavaggio. Instead of staying in the busiest area, we head for Casera Campelli, one of the quietest corners of the plateau. Then we gain height again up to Rifugio Nicola, facing the unmistakable shape of Monte Sodadura, and the moment everyone waits for arrives: lunch in the hut, all together. Once we are warm again we head back onto the snow to close the loop and drop down to the cable car.
5 reasons to come - a proper loop, out and back on different tracks - lunch at Rifugio Nicola facing the Sodadura - the quiet corner of Casera Campelli - the cable car that takes you straight up - the snowy Lecco pre-Alps, a short hop from Milan
Who it suits An easy, panoramic snowshoe outing: normal walking fitness is enough, and we take it slowly.
Snow, a mountain hut and new people to share the day with: join the Guidders.
