The Dito gully to Pizzo di Corzene: a first winter gully below the Presolana
Dito gully to Corzene
In winter the Presolana changes its face: the scree turns into white slopes and the gullies fill with snow. The Dito gully climbs straight up to Pizzo di Corzene, at almost 2,200 metres: the perfect gully for trying crampons and an ice axe for the first time.
The experience
We start from the Passo della Presolana and climb through the woods to the Baita Cassinelli. From there we head for the foot of the gully, put on crampons and climb step by step, on slopes never steeper than 40 degrees.
At the top we walk along the ridge to the Passo Pozzera, with the Presolana wall right beside us and Val Seriana below. Then we descend towards the Baita Cassinelli and are back at the pass in the afternoon.
The group is 4 Guidders at most: we climb calmly and everyone has time to learn. You need stiff boots, crampons, an ice axe, helmet and harness: if you don't have them, the kit can be rented when you book. We go when the gully is in good condition. Car pooling in the Telegram group.
The Passo della Presolana is an hour from Bergamo and an hour and three quarters from Milan, driving up via Clusone and Castione. Park at the pass, where the trail to the Baita Cassinelli starts. We meet early: winter days are short.
