WHY THIS TRIP
A hundred and fifty kilometres in the footsteps of the man who invented monastic Europe
The Cammino di San Benedetto links the saint's three places: Subiaco, where he withdrew into a cave at twenty, Montecassino, where he died and wrote the Rule, and the valleys in between. A hundred and fifty kilometres of Latium that almost nobody knows: the Simbruini mountains, the Aniene valley, the Ernici mountains and finally the Cassino plain.

You walk through beech woods, sleep in monasteries and hill villages, pass the Sacro Speco built into the rock face and finish in the abbey rebuilt after the 1944 battle. A route poor in tourists and rich in silence, and it costs little.
