WHY THIS HIKE

The Campanile di Val Montanaia

A spire of rock that looks hand-drawn. And we hike right beneath it.

Group chat a couple of days before
Come alone, leave with new friends

The experience

We set off with the Guidders from Pian Fontana, at the foot of the Friulian Dolomites, following trail CAI 353. It's an out-and-back route that climbs steadily: first through the forest, then up the long scree slope that leads us to the Perugini Bivouac, at 2072 meters. Right in front of us stands the Val Montanaia Spire, one of the most photographed towers in the Dolomites. Along the way, we can stop for a break at the Rifugio Pordenone, a historic landmark of this valley.

The Spire is a legend of Dolomite climbing: its sheer wall has drawn climbers from all over the world, but we admire it from below, from the bivouac named after those who paid tribute to the ones who never came back from that rock.

5 reasons to join - the Val Montanaia Spire, one of the most iconic towers in the Dolomites - the Perugini Bivouac, a breathtaking arrival point - the scree slope, tackled step by step - a possible stop at Rifugio Pordenone - unique views over the Friulian Dolomites

Who it's for You'll need good fitness and legs ready for a steady climb: no technical passages, but elevation gain comes fast. Perfect for those who love demanding hikes without technical gear.

Come discover this corner of the Friulian Dolomites with the Guidders: book your spot and let's climb together.

Hi Guidders! 🧡 I'm Alessandro, I'm 35 and I live in the heart of the Dolomites, in Cadore. I'm a mid-mountain leader with the Collegio Guide Alpine del Veneto and a UIMLA member, with a degree in Sport Science, an MTB guide and — yes — a sommelier too: after a hike, a good glass is never out of place. 🍷 I live the mountains in every form they come in: trekking, trail running, mountain bike adventures. Moving in nature is pure energy for me, discovery, feeling, and sharing it is the part of the job I never tire of. Panoramic ridge or woodland singletrack, the goal is the same: a real, active day that puts you back together. See you in the mountains, Guidders!
