Azores: 8 days across three islands, green craters and the climb to Pico at 2,351 m
Azores: eight days of green craters, whales and the highest mountain in Portugal
Nine islands in the middle of the Atlantic, halfway between Europe and America. We start on São Miguel: the crater rim of Sete Cidades with its two lakes, one green and one blue, Lagoa do Fogo appearing after an hour of walking in the mist, and the fumaroles of Furnas, where lunch cooks underground for six hours.
Is this trip for me?
Five vibes, an effort level and a type of trip: so you can tell in ten seconds if it's for you.
Then we fly to Pico and climb to the roof of Portugal: 2,351 metres, 1,100 of ascent on volcanic rock, with the ocean all around and the other islands floating below. The next day we head out among sperm whales and dolphins, and finish on Faial, walking the ash desert of the Capelinhos volcano, the last to erupt in the archipelago.
