The experience

We set off with the Guidders from a hamlet above Locarno and take an easy gravel road climbing towards Cardada, through old summer pastures and historic barns once used by skiers in the snowiest winters. From there we carry on to Cima della Trosa, a small panoramic summit poised between the Val Maggia and the Val Verzasca: from up there Lake Maggiore opens out entirely below. The return closes the loop.

From Brè, we head up a dirt track that will take us to the village of Cardada

The Summit of Trosa
The summit, accessible via a broad ridge, forms part of the long, panoramic ridge that stretches all the way to Madone. We are situated between Val Maggia and Val Verzasca, and from this small summit the view is one of the most beautiful of Lake Maggiore.

Back to cars
Let’s head back to the cars along the same route we came, stopping for a photo on the viewing platform at Cardada, which juts out over the lake
