Lake Blue in Val d'Ayas
A trek in Val d’Ayas, Aosta Valley, toward one of the most enchanting lakes of Monte Rosa. With Guidders, we’ll set off along a trail that crosses larch forests and glacial landscapes, gradually climbing to Lago Blu, nestled at the foot of the moraines of the Verra Glacier. Its turquoise color, created by “glacial milk,” offers unique reflections of the surrounding peaks. We’ll hike along a historic alpine route that for centuries was travelled by wayfarers and mountain folk, soaking up the authentic atmosphere of the Aosta Valley mountains. Once we reach the beautiful Fiery basin (1,878 m), we’ll pause briefly to admire the old mountain huts, skilfully restored, and the views as they begin to open out over the valley below.

Once we leave the forest behind, the landscape changes dramatically: before us opens up the majestic expanse of the Lower Verra Plateau. Here, nestled like a jewel among alpine meadows and glacial moraines, lies the Blue Lake, whose vivid turquoise waters reflect the sky above. The view is truly breathtaking: the snow-capped peaks of Castor and Pollux frame the lake like a picture-perfect backdrop. It will be the ideal spot for our packed lunch, to relax on the surrounding meadows, and to capture unforgettable postcard-worthy photos.

Parking
For the return journey, we’ll follow a beautiful circular route. We’ll take the scenic farm track descending from the Verra Plateau, with wide-open panoramic views over the valley. The trail will lead us directly back to our starting point in Saint-Jacques, bringing an unforgettable day to a perfect close before we say goodbye.
