Toubkal, 4,167 metres: the roof of North Africa in seven days
Three hours of road separate the chaos of Marrakech from the silence of Imlil, the village at 1,740 metres where everything begins. From there you climb on foot among walnut trees and terraces, sleep in the refuge at 3,207 metres and set off at five in the morning with head torches for the summit of Toubkal: 4,167 metres, the highest point in North Africa, the Sahara hinted at to the south and the Atlas unrolling in every direction.

Riad a Marrakech, gîte berbere a Imlil e rifugio a 3.207 m
It is not only a summit: it is the mules carrying the bags, mint tea poured from a metre above the glass, the mud and stone houses of the Azzaden valley, the night in a Berber gîte with dinner cooked by the family. It closes in Marrakech, with a hammam for the legs and Jemaa el-Fna square lighting up at dusk.

Da maggio a ottobre la salita è su terreno secco, caldo di giorno e vicino allo zero all'alba in vetta. Da novembre ad aprile c'è neve dai 3.000 metri: servono ramponi e piccozza, noleggiabili a Imlil, e la giornata di vetta diventa alpinistica.
