Your first 4000er, with an alpine guide

Piramide Vincent (4,215 m) is one of the most accessible and rewarding 4000ers of Monte Rosa: the right climb to experience high altitude authentically and safely. It is glacier mountaineering, designed for those already familiar with crampons and ice axe who want to take a real step in Guiddy's Road to 4000 programme.

The experience

We start from Punta Indren, reached by cable car from Alagna, and enter the glacial world straight away: bright glaciers, thin air and views widening with every step. We cross the Lys Glacier on a steady climb between seracs and high-altitude silence, up to the final steep stretch to the summit.

The progression is continuous but well graded: 950 metres of ascent in six hours, the best way to get to know the 4000ers without overdoing it, roped up with the alpine guide throughout.

This is a mountaineering outing: you need to be able to walk in crampons, be in good shape and used to altitude. It is not a hike. The alpine guide is included; crampons can be rented on request and the cable car from Alagna to Punta Indren is not included.

Build up to altitude gradually: in the weeks before, do outings above 2,000 m, sleep well the two nights before and arrive hydrated. Headache or nausea on the way up: tell your guide straight away, it's not a weakness

HOW TO GET THERE

Meeting at Alagna Valsesia
We meet the alpine guide and the Guidders in Alagna Valsesia (VC). Route briefing, equipment check and then the cable car up to Punta Indren. The exact time is shared in the outing's Telegram group.
09:00TRANSFER
Punta Indren, crampons on
Off the cable car at Punta Indren we get ready: crampons on, harness, roping up. From here we step straight into the glacier world, the air thinning and the landscape changing completely.
11:30VIEWPOINT
The Lys Glacier
We cross the Lys Glacier on a steady climb between seracs, light and high-altitude silence. This is where you find the rhythm of the rope team and learn to read the glacier: pure emotion.
13:00SUMMIT
On the summit of Piramide Vincent (4,215 m)
The last stretch is steep and spectacular, then we reach the 4,215 metres of Piramide Vincent. From here the view covers the Monte Rosa massif, the Aosta Valley and Valsesia: the moment that gives meaning to the whole climb.
16:00RETURN
Back to Alagna
We descend the route we climbed back to Punta Indren and take the cable car down to Alagna. At the car park we gather, tired and satisfied, with one more 4000er behind us.
