Foliage in the Langhe: trekking weekend between Vigna dei Pastelli, Neive and Barbaresco
Foliage weekend in the Langhe
The Langhe just as the vineyards catch fire.
The experience
Day 1. We set off with the Guidders from Castiglione Tinella and walk dirt tracks that rise and fall along the ridgelines, with the Alps on the horizon. We reach the Vigna dei Pastelli, where giant coloured pencils have replaced the vineyard posts, then the big bench at Coazzolo and the painted chapels. Night in a hotel.
Day 2. From Neive, one of Italy's loveliest villages, we follow the ridges between the vines to Barbaresco, announced from afar by its medieval tower. We finish in a cellar, for anyone who wants it, with an optional tasting.
5 reasons to come - vineyard foliage, yellow and red as far as you can see - the Vigna dei Pastelli and the giant bench at Coazzolo - the ridgeline walk from Neive to Barbaresco, through a UNESCO landscape - two medieval villages in two days - walking well and eating well in the same weekend
Who it suits Easy dirt tracks with gentle ups and downs: fine even if you do not walk much.
Autumn in the Langhe with the Guidders: slow going, and you come home full.
