Bivacco Città di Clusone and the Grotta dei Pagani

An extraordinary trek in the heart of the Bergamasque Orobie, in the presence of the majestic Presolana, known as the Queen of the Orobie.

The experience

This circular route is a true journey through the most spectacular limestone landscape in Lombardy: a succession of alpine forests, scree slopes, Dolomite walls and unique rocky environments.

Starting from the Passo della Presolana, the path crosses coniferous forests until reaching the panoramic Baita Cassinelli, one of the most evocative points of the entire massif.

From here, the landscape changes completely: the vegetation gives way to an almost lunar environment made of limestone rocks and scree slopes, while the south face of the Presolana dominates the scene with all its grandeur.

We will continue to the Bivacco Città di Clusone, a small alpine outpost nestled among the rocks, and then reach one of the most iconic places in the group: the spectacular Grotta dei Pagani, an enormous natural amphitheater carved into the rock.

Here we will come face to face with the Presolana, surrounded by one of the most evocative landscapes in all of the Orobie.

An intense and panoramic excursion, perfect for Guidders who want to experience the wildest and most authentic mountains of the Bergamasque Orobie.

In less than an hour, the landscape will transform completely. We'll leave the fir forest behind and begin to enjoy the scenery dominated by the limestone rock of the Presolana massif. Here, a quick stop at the Baita Cassinelli mountain hut will give us the energy we need to really start climbing!

A place of mystic energy, the Cave of the Pagans invites you to connect with the heart of the mountain. Explore its depths and imagine ancient pagan rituals and tribal celebrations unfolding within these very walls.

"Città di Clusone" Bivouac
"After completing a loop hike at the foot of the Presolana, we'll descend towards the Shadow Valley, home to the popular and well-known Bivacco Città di Clusone. This panoramic terrace overlooking the valley is the perfect spot to enjoy our packed lunches before the descent back to the cars."

After a long and enjoyable descent, we'll head back to our starting point, having completed a fantastic hike of around 12 km with a total elevation change of 1000 meters!

An extraordinary trek in the heart of the Bergamasque Orobie, in the presence of the majestic Presolana, known as the Queen of the Orobie.

The experience
