WHY THIS TRIP
Fifty-seven square kilometres of meadow at two thousand metres
The Alpe di Siusi is Europe's largest alpine plateau: a sea of rolling meadows at two thousand metres, closed by the towers of the Sciliar and the teeth of the Sassolungo. It is the most postcard-like corner of the Dolomites, which is exactly why you should go when nobody is there: cars are banned, you ride up and walk.

Baita o albergo sull'Alpe di Siusi
Four days to do it properly: the classic plateau circuit between mountain huts, the climb to the Bolzano hut on the Sciliar with all the Dolomites in view, the Sassolungo circuit from the Sella pass, and the Val Gardena from above. You sleep in a hut on the plateau, eat canederli and strudel, and in the evening the enrosadira turns the walls pink.
