The experience

We set off with the Guidders from Pescegallo, in the heart of the Orobie Valtellinesi park, and climb to the Bocchetta dell'Inferno, then to the equally striking Bocchetta del Paradiso, in a constant play of crests, spires and alpine lakes. The signature objective is Lago di Trona, an emerald sheet of water set among the rocks. It is a demanding trek, but every metre is spent in country that justifies the effort.

HOW TO GET THERE

Starting point: Pescegallo car park.
We'll kick things off from the Pescegallo car park, then follow the trails along the shores of Lake Zancone and afterwards, the picturesque Lago Rotondo (Round Lake). From there, we'll head towards the Bocchetta Paradiso (Paradise Pass) and the Bocchetta dell'Inferno (Hell's Pass).

Inferno Pass & Lake: A High-Altitude Adventure
We'll descend from the Bocchetta dell'Inferno pass – a crossroads between the Brembana, Valtellina and Imagna valleys – towards the stunning Lago dell'Inferno. Here, we'll stop for lunch amidst the meadows near the Rifugio Falk.

From Lake Inferno to Lake Trona: A Stunning Trek

Back to the trailhead.
From Lake Trona, we'll head back to the cars, hiking the final section of the trail we took on the way in.
