The experience

We set off with the Guidders from Brinzio, in the heart of the Campo dei Fiori park, and walk through cool, silent woodland to the Valico Pizzelle. We cross the evocative line of the old rack railway and climb the flank of Monte Tre Croci on a varied and never dull path. The final pull gives one of the most iconic viewpoints in the Varese area, and the circuit closes over Monte Pizzelle, among the Lombard pre-Alps.

HOW TO GET THERE

Departure
We'll start from the parking area and quickly reach the Brinzio erratic boulder, before continuing towards the ruins of the old funicular.
10:00PASS
Pizzelle Pass
We'll head towards Pizzelle Pass, and from there, we'll take the trail towards Monte Tre Croci. Our route leads us to the ruins of the old funicular railway that once served the Grand Hotel Campo dei Fiori.
12:30VIEWPOINT
Mount Tre Croci (Three Crosses Mountain)
"After passing the old funicular, we'll pick up the trail that skirts the summit of Monte Tre Croci along its eastern slope. We'll hike past the ruins of the Belvedere Restaurant and begin ascending the rocky face via a series of steps. We'll traverse the mountain's northern flank, which forms a deep and panoramic cliff, safely protected by a handrail. The trail then bends left to reach the top of the rock face, continuing with some gentle ups and downs until we reach the Tre Croci – the three crosses that give the mountain its name."

Mount Pizzelle: A taste of the Dolomites!
"After soaking in the stunning views, we'll descend towards the Pizzelle Pass and then ascend Mount Pizzelle itself."
