WHY THIS HIKE

Altissimo: Baldo's rooftop

The northernmost peak of the Baldo range. And a magical view over Lake Garda.

Group chat a couple of days before
Come alone, leave with new friends

The experience

We set off with the Guidders from Rifugio Graziani, a classic starting point for those climbing in this area. We begin our loop along a gentle forest road, at times even downhill, until we reach Malga Campo, located right below the summit of Monte Campo, from where a wonderful panorama over the Vallagarina and the Adige Valley already opens up. From here the real climb begins, but without particular technical difficulties we reach Rifugio Damiano Chiesa, just a stone's throw from the summit of Monte Altissimo, where we'll admire the sunset right above Lake Garda. After enjoying the food and warm hospitality of the refuge, it will be time to switch on our headlamps and descend along the old military road, whose gentle switchbacks lead us back to the Rifugio Graziani car park, thus completing our loop.

Up there you'll find more than just views: there are remains of First World War installations and a chapel in memory of the victims of the conflicts. Monte Altissimo di Nago is also a stop along the Peace Trail, and from the summit the view reaches all the way to the Adamello and the Brenta Dolomites, with Lake Garda sparkling below us.

5 reasons to come - the most panoramic peak of the entire Monte Baldo range - Rifugio Damiano Chiesa right at the top - remains of trenches and Great War history underfoot - views stretching from Lake Garda to the Brenta Dolomites - a varied loop, never monotonous

Who it's suitable for You'll need trained legs and the desire to spend a few hours at altitude: no technical sections, but quite a bit of elevation gain to cover at a steady pace.

Come discover it with the Guidders: at the top, the view is worth every step.

Hi Guidders! 🧡 I'm Filippo, a Mountain Leader! Born and raised in a small village in Trentino, surrounded by mountains and woods, I developed a passion for sports and outdoor activities from an early age. As I grew up, though, the frenzy of competition gave way to the peace and silence of the mountains, where, step by step, I found myself. The idea of turning guiding into a profession came from shared experiences with friends and family, who always manage to show me the mountains from a different perspective, as if it were the first time all over again. This is how I try to live every mountain experience, with no intention of teaching anyone anything, but with the desire to share moments capable of creating memories and deep bonds. See you in the mountains, Guidders!
