The experience

We set off with the Guidders from the village of Sagno, in Canton Ticino, and climb steadily towards Monte Bisbino through beech and chestnut woods that alternate shade with ever-wider openings. As we gain height the view reaches Lake Como, Lake Lugano, Monte Generoso and the Val d'Intelvi, with the Alps as a backdrop. At the top, beside the sanctuary of the Beata Vergine, we settle in and wait for the moment the sun drops behind the mountains and the whole Insubria region changes colour.
