Strino Lakes Trek: the autumn loop facing Presanella, Val di Sole
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Intermediate Plus
Description
Five alpine lakes at 2600 meters, with Presanella staring you straight in the eyes.
We set off with the Guidders from Tonale Pass, past the WWI remains of Forte Zaccarana and the Città Morta, climbing a scenic SAT trail. We rise through autumn pastures glowing gold and copper, with Presanella, Trentino's highest peak, keeping us company the whole way. The route is a loop: we climb one side, reach the Strino Lakes basin, then descend the other, closing the circle as the woods turn golden in the afternoon light.
Here, between 1915 and 1918, ran the Tonale front line: today you walk the same paths that once led to the forts, with dry-stone walls and trenches still visible among the rocks.
5 reasons to join
- five or six alpine lakes set at 2600 meters
- Presanella dominating the entire skyline
- Forte Zaccarana and Città Morta, WWI history underfoot
- autumn foliage lighting up woods and pastures
- possible sightings of marmots and ibex

Matteo
Hi Guidders! 🧡 I'm Matteo, an AMM guide with the Collegio Guide Alpine of Trentino. I believe in sharing, in listening and in genuine experiences: the ones that leave real memories and make you feel part of the mountain, not a passing visitor. I live and work in the mountains, the place of my roots and my identity, where my heart beats harder. I've followed this road since I was a child, and at some point I turned the passion into a profession. Let's walk together: adventure is always better shared. 🎒 See you in the mountains, Guidders!
