The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Campo Franscia, in the Valmalenco, and with snowshoes on we move slowly into the heart of the valley: silent woods, tarns under ice and a landscape that widens step after step up to the Piani di Campagneda, dominated by the unmistakable shape of Pizzo Scalino. On clear days the view reaches Monte Disgrazia and the great peaks of the Bernina. We wait together for the finest moment, sunset on the snow, then step into the warmth of the hut for a Valtellina dinner. The walk back is under the stars.

Departure from Campo Franscia
Time will be confirmed by the guide according to sunset and current conditions. Meeting point: Campo Franscia, Valmalenco (SO). After a brief introduction, we will assess road conditions and, if necessary, fit snow chains to the cars in order to reach the actual starting point. Once there, we will put on our snowshoes and the guide will give a short briefing on how to use them and on the planned route.

Snowshoe Hike to the Campagneda Plateau
We will begin by walking on snow, gradually making our way into the stunning Campagneda Plains. We will cross plateaus, forests, and wide open landscapes, also coming across small alpine lakes covered in snow and ice. Along the way, your guide will alternate stories and fascinating insights about Valmalenco with moments when it will simply be a pleasure to walk and listen to the silence.
19:30MOUNTAIN HUT
Sunset on Pizzo Scalino and dinner at a mountain hut
We will reach a panoramic viewpoint where, weather permitting, we will be able to admire Pizzo Scalino, Monte Disgrazia, and some of the majestic peaks of the Bernina Range. Here, we will wait together for the sunset. Then we will continue on to the mountain hut, where we will finally warm up over a traditional fixed-menu Valtellina dinner. The planned menu includes a selection of cured meats and cheeses with pickled vegetables, pizzoccheri, dessert, water, wine, and coffee.
22:00RETURN
Return under the stars
By then, night will have fallen. We’ll put our snowshoes and headlamps back on and begin the walk back across the snow. It will probably be the most enchanting part of the day: the landscape we crossed just a few hours earlier will feel completely transformed, lit only by our headlamps and the winter sky. Return to the cars and end of the experience after approximately 7 hours in total, dinner included.
