The experience

We set off with the Guidders from the Baita della Piada, above Albosaggia, and climb Pizzo Meriggio: from up here the three-thousanders of the Valtellina Orobie follow one another in a row, while to the north the Valtellina stretches out two thousand metres below, with Sondrio clearly visible in the middle and the Rhaetian ridge on the horizon. The descent passes the Baite Meriggio, the Passo Portella and the Zocche tarn, down to the Facetti bivouac.

From Baita della Piada, we'll continue along the trail that leads us to the summit of Pizzo Meriggio at 2348 meters, following its ridge.

Descent from Pizzo Peak OR Hiking Down Pizzo OR Pizzo Peak Descent
We begin our descent, first returning to the Baita della Piada mountain hut, before branching off towards the Meriggio Huts.

From the Meriggio mountain huts, we'll ascend to the Portella Pass, continuing to the Facetti bivouac and the picturesque Zocche Lake.

We set off with the Guidders from the Baita della Piada, above Albosaggia, and climb Pizzo Meriggio: from up here the three-thousanders of the Valtellina Orobie follow one another in a row, while to the north the Valtellina stretches out two thousand metres below, with Sondrio clearly visible in the middle and the Rhaetian ridge on the horizon.
