The experience

We set off with the Guidders from Sozzine, in the upper Valle Camonica, and drop straight into the woods along a stony track that makes the climb a steady one. Out of the trees the view opens onto the Castellaccio group and the setting turns wilder, among shrubs and streams. Past a sluice we cross a large scree field, with running water to be forded carefully, up to the first Narcanello waterfall. The path carries on with fitted sections, chains and steps, to the second fall and the Pisgana tarn.

After a climb that winds through forests and open terrain, taking in views of the Castellaccio massif and the Pisgana glacier, we reach the waterfalls before continuing our ascent to the stunning glacial lake.

We’ll be back at our cars just in time to enjoy a well-deserved aperitivo with the group at the "La Tana dell'Orso" chalet.
