Description
An airy ridge above the Val Grande, the largest wild area in the Alps.
We set off with the Guidders from Cappella Porta, above Caprezzo, and climb through the woods to Rifugio Pian Cavallone, on a grassy saddle looking out over Lake Maggiore. That is where the best part begins: the ridge leading to Monte Zeda, with airy sections and a few stretches fitted with chains. It is not a via ferrata — we take it calmly, with a steady step. At the summit you stand between two worlds: wild Val Grande on one side, Lake Maggiore on the other, with Monte Rosa behind. We return the same way.
