Loop of the Lakes in Upper Valle Antrona: a circular trek in Valle Antrona

Two alpine lakes, one loop, one full day of real mountain trekking.

We set off with the Guidders from Lago di Antrona, in Valle Antrona, and climb straight away through woods and old mule tracks. The route is a loop: steep at the start, then a steady climb past alpine pastures up above 2300 metres, before a gentle descent back down to close the circle. The steeper sections come one step at a time, and every metre gained opens up a new view over peaks and valleys. The heart of the day is Lake Campliccioli, with its turquoise water set among the rocks — the kind of place that stops you in your tracks.

This valley hides a whole chain of alpine lakes — Antrona, Campliccioli, Cingino, Camposecco — a wild corner of Piedmont that few hikers really know.
