The path rising from Valbondione towards Rifugio Merelli al Coca is genuinely demanding: a climb that never lets up. But beating the effort makes the satisfaction greater still, when the view opens onto Lago di Coca, mirror of the Orobie giants that surround it. Along the climb the local guardians provide the distraction: the ibex, often right on the path or just beyond it for a sharp eye.
