We set off with the Guidders and climb through pasture and silence to Lago di Trona, set high in the Val Gerola: a cool, little-visited gem where you can relax, walk and — in summer — take a swim. Just above stands Rifugio Trona Soliva, the right place to stop before heading back. A route of moderate difficulty, for anyone with a little fitness and a wish to take the mountains lightly.
