Lake Miserin and its sanctuary in the Champorcher valley
Lake Miserin from Dondena
A high mountain lake, with a sanctuary on its shore.
The experience
Some places catch you off guard, and Lago Miserin is one of them. You walk with the Guidders up a wide, silent valley, round the last rise, and in front of you is a lake with a church on its shore. Not a ruin, not a little chapel: a real sanctuary, in the middle of nowhere, where for centuries the people of the valley have walked up every fifth of August. We start from Dondena, the old summer pasture at the end of the road, on a wide, even track that climbs gently: nothing difficult, just pasture, stone and sky opening up at every bend. This is the upper Champorcher valley, the other face of the Mont Avic area: quieter, more open.
5 reasons to come - the sanctuary on the shore of Lago Miserin - a wide, silent valley all to ourselves - an even climb, the kind where you talk the whole way - the upper Champorcher valley, away from the busy circuits - in autumn the valley lights up and the low sun does the rest
Who it suits A real mountain day without paying for it in hours of effort: fine even if you do not walk much.
Come and see the Miserin with the Guidders: the surprise is just round the last rise.
