Easy
Perfect for those who want to enjoy nature without too much effort. Short, well-marked trails with gentle slopes. No technical difficulties, just a desire to walk, breathe in the fresh air, and share the day with a group.
Ideal for: Beginners, families, those who want to take their first steps in trekking.
Easy Plus
A little faster pace, but still accessible. Slightly longer routes or with a few more hills, requiring some walking experience. The terrain is always easy and safe.
Ideal for: Those who walk regularly and want to challenge themselves a little.
Intermediate — this outing
Here we enter the world of true trekking. Steeper climbs, stretches on uneven or longer trails that require stamina. The physical effort is medium to high, and the fatigue is noticeable... but so is the satisfaction!
Ideal for: Those who already have experience and a good level of physical fitness.
Intermediate Plus
When the mountains begin to take their toll. More challenging routes in terms of gradient or duration, with technical sections or uneven terrain. Even a medium elevation gain can be tough if concentrated in just a few kilometers
Ideal for: Trained hikers, accustomed to walking on mountain paths
Difficult
Level suitable for experienced hikers with excellent stamina and surefootedness. The physical challenge is high, and there may be steep sections or possible exposure, which is always noted in the hike description. Perfect for those who enjoy pushing their limits and conquering significant peaks.
Ideal for: Those who already have experience in an Alpine environment and want to challenge themselves.
Difficult Plus
Only for true Guidders with their Wild Spirit at its peak Long routes, significant elevation gain (over 1,100 m), and technical or exposed terrain. Excellent physical preparation, sure-footedness, and the ability to manage fatigue at high altitude are required.
Ideal for: Highly trained and experienced hikers in the mountains.

Meeting point 9:30approximate
Via Spoto 28, 95010 Milo città metropolitana di Catania, Italia. The exact time is confirmed in the group chat. We usually meet a little earlier for breakfast together, when possible.
Our journey begins near Borgo Caselle, a small rural gem just a stone's throw from the center of Milo. Picture a cluster of houses nestled together amidst neat vineyards and ancient patches of woodland. It's a timeless place where the atmosphere immediately invites you to slow down and connect with your surroundings. From here, our circular hiking route takes shape, a trek that will gradually lead us into the heart of Mount Etna's natural beauty, one step at a time.
10:30VIEWPOINT
Ilice di Carrinu
This is the largest and oldest holm oak in the entire Mount Etna region. It stands 25 meters tall, boasts a canopy diameter of approximately 30 meters, and has a base circumference of 5 meters. It's estimated to be around 700 years old. The name "Ilice" is a Sicilian dialectal term derived directly from the Latin word "Ilex," which refers specifically to the holm oak, while "Carrinu" is a diminutive of the name Carlo, or Carlino. Local lore tells that the tree takes its name from a shepherd or charcoal burner named Carlo, who lived in a hut nearby and used its imposing crown as shelter and a landmark in the vast woodland area. Others say he was the owner of the land on which the tree stands.

Pagghiaru
"During our trek, we'll stop at a *pagghiaru*, one of the ancient pastoral shelters that dot the slopes of Mount Etna. Built entirely from lava stone, with its characteristic conical roof of wood and branches, this small structure tells a story of centuries of rural and pastoral life. Shepherds once found refuge, rest, and silence here after long days spent in the fields and forests. Stepping inside a *pagghiaru* is like taking a leap into the past, experiencing firsthand a precious historical and cultural heritage, deeply intertwined with the Etnean landscape and the authentic relationship between humanity and the volcano."

Hi Guidders! 🧡 I'm Orazio, an environmental hiking guide and a Forest Bathing instructor. I love my own land, Sicily, and I love passing that passion on: it's the reason I chose to guide people rather than walk alone. My hikes are made of a few simple ingredients: discovery, respect and professionalism. Nothing else is needed — and taking away the surplus leaves more room for what you actually see. In one phrase, I consider myself a builder of memories. 🥾 See you in the mountains, Guidders!
We only ask for feedback from people who were really there.
