The experience
With the Guidders we walk the Alta Via del Golfo, from Bocca di Magra to Portovenere, crossing the most genuine part of the Gulf of Poets.
Day 1. From Bocca di Magra to Termo, along ridges with the first glimpses of the sea. Day 2. From Termo to La Foce, with the gulf opening out below. Day 3. From La Foce to Portovenere, arriving on foot where most people arrive by boat.
Every step gives views of the sea, villages suspended in time and that sense of freedom only a long walk provides.

First Leg: Bocca di Magra to Termo
STAGE DETAILS: 17.5 KM 700 MT ELEVATION GAIN Our journey begins in Bocca di Magra, a charming village overlooking the Magra River, almost on the border between Liguria and Tuscany. After an initial briefing with your guides, we'll set off along the Alta Via del Golfo trail, immediately immersing ourselves in a Mediterranean landscape of scrubland, olive groves, and glimpses of the sea. The first section leads us to Montemarcello, one of Italy's most beautiful villages, perched on a hill overlooking the entire Gulf of Poets. From here, the panoramic views are already spectacular, marking the true beginning of our scenic adventure. The trail continues towards Monte Rocchetta, the highest point of the stage, crossing forests of holm oak and rocky outcrops typical of this part of the Ligurian coast. Descending towards the coast, we'll pass through small villages and characteristic hamlets such as La Serra di Lerici, Barcola, Pugliola, and Baccano, always accompanied by stunning views of the sea and the gulf. We arrive in Termo in the afternoon. We'll reach the village of Termo, just outside La Spezia, where our first day of trekking ends. 🏨 Overnight stay and dinner at a local accommodation. A perfect evening to relax after the first day of hiking and share the day's experiences with your guides.
