The experience

We set off with the Guidders from the hamlet of Pianezza, above Vilminore di Scalve, and the path winds between meadows and barns to a quiet level lane. The climb, gentle and steady, follows the wildlife observatory trail, among firs and larches that smell of real mountains. Arriving at the ruins of the Gleno dam is the moment that stays: here the Orobie woods keep the marks of the past, and the view does the rest.

Once you've parked your car, we'll meet at the Church of San Carlo in Vilminore di Scalve (Bergamo province). There are several paid parking areas in the village of Vilminore. For most months of the year, you'll need to purchase a "Scratch & Park" ticket costing €5.
