The experience

We set off with the Guidders from the Bagni di Masino, wrapped in the scent of spruce, while the path climbs through hairpins and old mule tracks. We pass the magical narrows known as the Termopili, a passage cut between enormous boulders, and reach the wide Pianone del Porcellizzo: a natural balcony where the Pizzo Badile and the Pizzo Cengalo reveal themselves in full. The final stretch climbs firmly through rock and pasture to Rifugio Gianetti, a stone nest suspended between sky and mountains.

Our starting point is Bagni di Masino (SO), where parking is available (free before the bridge or paid parking after the bridge). We'll pick up the trail just behind the thermal baths.
13:00MOUNTAIN HUT
"Gianetti Hut"
The trail climbs steeply with steps and switchbacks until it reaches a level section where you pass through a narrow passage between two boulders – a landmark known as "The Thermopylae". After crossing a small bridge, the trail ascends again with switchbacks and natural steps until, after a final traverse, you reach the Gianetti Refuge, where we can relax and enjoy a well-deserved packed lunch or a meal at the refuge.
