Fora waterfalls: Alpe Fora and the glacial plateau of the Piani di Fora above Chiareggio
Fora falls and plateau
Water falling from the glacier, a plateau hanging above the valley and the pastures of the alp: the Piani di Fora are the balcony of upper Valmalenco.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Chiareggio and climb to Alpe Fora, among the summer farm huts above the village. From here the path gets steeper and leads to the edge of the Piani di Fora, the glacial plateau where the glacier falls come down. Packed lunch on the plateau, with the valley at our feet, and back to Chiareggio the same way.
The path is part of the Alta Via della Valmalenco and of the CAI Sentiero Italia, which continues from here towards the Longoni hut.
Anyone with a good pace: from Alpe Fora the path climbs steeply to the plateau, with no technical passages.
Come and discover the Piani di Fora with the Guidders: the upper Valmalenco few people know.
Chiareggio is at the head of Valmalenco, about two and a half hours from Milan: the SS36 to Colico, the Valtellina road to Sondrio, then the Valmalenco road to Chiesa and the climb to Chiareggio. Car pooling in the outing's Telegram group.
