The experience

In winter the Cardeto lakes change face completely: the hanging basin above Gromo, one of Italy's loveliest villages, becomes a white amphitheatre. We set off with the Guidders and climb through woods muffled by snow, among larch and fir, alternating sheltered stretches with panoramic openings over the Val Seriana. When we leave the trees the landscape turns open: snowy meadows, soft lines and then the lakes, appearing frozen and silent, one after another. Just above stands the Baita di Cardeto.
