WHY THIS HIKE
A metal dome suspended between earth and sky
Among the most striking destinations in Valsassina, the Locatelli-Milani-Scaioli bivouac is a small metal dome that seems suspended between earth and sky. It sits on the summit of Monte Due Mani, at 1,666 metres, and offers one of the most complete views in the area: from the Grigne to the Resegone, out to Lake Como.

The experience
We start from Culmine di San Pietro, above Cassina Valsassina, on a well-marked trail heading straight into woods and meadows. The shaded stretches of the first part make the climb pleasant even on hot days; higher up the woods open and only the ridge remains.
At the top we take a long break: a packed lunch beside the dome, photos, and a look at Valsassina from a perspective quite unlike any other. The return follows a small variant, so we do not walk the same trail twice.
This is an intermediate hike: 550 metres of ascent over ten kilometres, on a well-marked trail with no technical sections, with some ridge walking where care is needed. Bring boots, water and a packed lunch: there is no service at the top.

We reach the metal dome of the Locatelli bivouac, on the summit of Monte Due Mani. A long stop to take in the view over Valsassina, the Resegone, Grignetta, Grignone and Lake Como, eat our packed lunch and take photos beside the dome.
15:30RETURN
Back to the Culmine on a variant
We head back towards Culmine di San Pietro on an alternative route, so we also see the other side of the mountain. At the cars we take the time for a last shared moment before saying goodbye.

Non tornano da tanto sul Monte due Mani l'ho fatto con un nuovo percorso, assolutamente non complesso tecnicamente. In cima il panorama é bellissimo nonostante la quota non esagerata. Bellissima uscita per chi non vuole strafare ma vuole godersi una bella vista!
