The experience

We set off with the Guidders from the small village of Esmate and take a path into the woods among beech and chestnut trees, with glimpses of the lake widening at every bend. The climb leads to the summit of Monte Clemo, a top few people know, with a spectacular view over the Valle Camonica, Lake Iseo and Monte Isola. Then we traverse across to the evocative hermitage of San Defendente, where we settle down with something to eat and drink as the light drops.
