The experience

Day 1. We set off with the Guidders from Valbondione, in the Valle Seriana, and climb through conifer woods and rocky sections to Lago del Barbellino, where we pitch camp. The evening is all there: the valley emptying out, the great Orobie peaks around us and a sky with no lights in it.

Day 2. After breakfast we head for the tarns of the Val Cerviera and the natural Barbellino lake, with the hut just above, then back down to Valbondione.

Departure from Valbondione
Starting from Valbondione (all-day parking €5), you follow the trail up to Rifugio Curò, passing through woodland, old mule tracks, and scenic views over Lake Barbellino.

Lake Barbellino
From Rifugio Curò, we continue along the lakeshore to the Val Cerviera waterfall, with a few steeper sections along the way. In this area, we’ll set up camp and spend the night under the stars. Day’s elevation gain: 1,000 m, distance: 6.5 km
